SILVERY WATER AND STARRY EARTH - Sara D’Uva

“Silvery Water and Starry Earth”

takes its title from an ancient book of Arabian Alchemy.

Because the Alchemist aims to utilize the mechanisms of Nature in their laboratory, The poetry of this sentence evokes the key concepts of the Alchemical Art and the study of Nature: the eventual conjunction of these opposites, the correspondence of the above and the below, and the earthly matters reflecting the operations of the astral plane. This law of correspondence is translated into this project in the aesthetics of photos and videos taken during the Spagyric practice of preparing medicinal remedies from plants and minerals.

“Spagyria” is an ancient discipline deriving directly from Alchemy, which consists of separating the three basic principle of plants, animals and minerals: Salt, Sulfur and Mercury; it seeks to purify this trio separately, and then pulls them back together in a new being, pure and incorruptible by time.

All the images of the project, taken in the laboratory during the study of this ancient practice, can be easly confused with images of the macrocosm: a sky, a planet’s surface, ice, clouds… Where the crystallization of the mineral salts corresponds to the structure of the vegetable itself, where the secret beauty of the separation and reunification of the matter (solve et coagula ) is documented, and how this beauty of “the below” is confused with the aesthetics of “the above”.

This project and on going research were born out of the reverence for the natural world, and the belief that a single element may hold and represent the whole universe. A reflection of the secret mechanisms of Nature, which reveal to the eyes its magical beauty.

"銀色の水と星の大地"

そのタイトルは、アラビアの古代の錬金術の書物に由来する。

錬金術師は自然のメカニズムを実験室で活用することを目指しているからだ、この詩的な文章は、錬金術と自然研究の重要な概念である、相反するものの最終的な結合、上と下の対応、アストラル面の作用を反映する地上の事柄を想起させる。この対応の法則は、植物や鉱物から薬草を調合するスパギリックの実践中に撮影された写真やビデオの美学において、このプロジェクトに翻訳されている。

「スパギリア」とは、錬金術から直接派生した古代の学問で、植物、動物、鉱物の3つの基本原理を分離することからなる： 塩、硫黄、水銀という3つの基本原理を分離することで、この3つの原理を別々に浄化し、純粋で腐敗しない新たな存在としてまとめ上げるのである。

このプロジェクトの画像はすべて、この古代の慣習の研究中に実験室で撮影されたもので、空、惑星の表面、氷、雲...といった大宇宙のイメージと混同しやすい。ミネラル塩の結晶化が野菜そのものの構造に対応し、物質の分離と再統合の秘密の美（solve et coagula）が記録され、この「下」の美が「上」の美学とどのように混同されるのか。

このプロジェクトと継続的な研究は、自然界への畏敬の念と、ひとつの元素が宇宙全体を保持し、表現しているかもしれないという信念から生まれた。自然の秘密のメカニズムを映し出し、その不思議な美しさを目に焼き付ける。
